Muntin bars

Muntin bars are decorative (sometimes also having a structural function) wooden or aluminium slats dividing window sashes into the appropriate number of sections required by the customer.

In many cases the use of muntin bars is essential, as they give a building a unique character and allow the divisions in the windows of older structures to be retained. Muntin bars are widely used, particularly in residential buildings.

Viennese muntin bars (duplex)

There is one pane set in the sash divided inside by an aluminium frame (similar to a distance frame).

Wooden slats are fitted to both sides of the pane set. A Viennese muntin bar creates the impression of separate sets of panes.

Frames which are inside of the glass may occur in the following colors:

  • black
  • dark brown
  • light brown
  • dark grey
  • light grey
  • white

Stick-on muntin bars

There is one pane set in the sash (one undivided sash). Wooden slats are fitted to both sides of this set, while there are no muntin bars inside the panes.

Fastened muntin bars

There is one pane set in the sash (one undivided sash). Wooden slats are placed on the outside but do not touch the surface of the pane and are about 3 mm from it. The divider is attached to the sash using special fasteners which enable it to be removed, e.g. when cleaning the windows, or hinges are used which allow the frame with the divider to be opened.

Internal muntin bars

There is one pane set in the sash divided inside by an aluminium muntin bar with a width of 8, 18, 26 or 45 mm.

The muntin bar is installed when the pane set is being bonded and is inaccessible for air, dust and dampness. It is very convenient to use, as it does not require cleaning, maintenance, etc. The wide range of internal muntin bars allows them to be matched to almost every colour or type of window.

They can be formed into a variety of shapes - arches, circles, connections at different angles. The two-tone version, i.e. different colours on each side, includes muntin bars of only two widths - 19 and 26 mm.

Structural muntin bars

Using a muntin bar of this kind means installing as many separate pane sets as sections the sash has been divided into, i.e. every section is a separate pane.

Because of the width of structural muntin bars, we have to deal with a limited amount of light reaching the interior of the room.

The structural muntin bars come in the following widths: 97 mm, 74mm, 57 mm (standard), 46 mm.
